Since my childhood, I have always been attracted to color. The sky, the ocean and the forest holds a special attraction for me. Growing up in a tenement in the Bronx, New York City, I didn’t get to see the forest or the ocean very much. I grew up in a five flight walk up tenement building which had access to the rooftop. It was there that I spent long periods of time, looking up at the sky and painting. Large areas of sky had a calming effect which took me away to other environments. Eventually I moved to the country and marveled at large swatches of green color in fields and on mountains. My world expanded and I visited the ocean for the calming effect of endless blue water. My abstract paintings are an expression of the natural beauty I see and the raw emotion I feel. I am a painter of emotional landscapes.

To create my paintings, I experiment with color, shape and composition. Some of my shapes are circular and elliptical evoking an other worldly quality to my paintings where the ellipses appear to be floating. To me, these paintings evoke feelings of peacefulness, serenity and of the mind in a meditative state. Other shapes tend to be similar to geologic masses found in caverns and rock canyons expressing the grandeur and beauty of our earth.

The endless possibilities of color combinations are fascinating.  I use vibrant colors or moody subdued colors to create the particular emotional landscape I desire. Translucent colors are glazed in many layers to achieve the depth and intensity that I am looking for.
